The Sanskrit word Mudra translated means “seal”: a point of connection, the closing of a circuit, where one part of the body meets another.
In daily life we make these movements naturally; hand to the brow, to the mouth, the chest, or hands coming together in prayer, for example. Perhaps they provide a brief moment of comfort or connection, or they support something we’re doing or feeling.
In yoga these natural movements were formalised into a series of Mudras- points of connection hundreds of years ago. Practising Mudras encourages increased awareness through touch, in their simple, single-pointed focus.
On this day we will look at our wonderful hands, explore a series of mudras, and how they support both relaxation and meditation.
No previous experience of yoga required; a beginner’s mind is a bonus!
This day is at the Centre only. Please bring a packed lunch and wear loose clothing. Mats are available here.
