A meditative day-retreat with Mark S. Burrows, PhD
The Austrian poet Rilke spent a decade completing what became the crowning work of his life: the Duino Elegies. These poems face the uncertainties of life, stressed by outer turmoil and inner struggles, knowing that “our life passes in transformation.” They probe the depths of the “heart-work” involved in living with creative passion and spiritual integrity, particularly in the midst of suffering. In these elegies, Rilke explores what he came to call “the long experience of love,” with all its joys and disappointments, inviting us to discover the “immeasurable life [that] springs from [our] heart”—even in difficult times. We will probe the arc of these poems, from the shadows of lament into the radiance of praise, a journey that takes us through “the land of sorrow” into “the wellspring of joy.”
This gathering is the UK launch of Burrows’ long anticipated translation of these magnificent elegies, which will be published in September.
Please join us.
And please note- we will start the day 30 minutes earlier than usual to allow more time for meditation through the day.
