Artificial intelligence is changing far more than the tasks we perform. It is beginning to challenge some of our deepest assumptions about work, expertise, achievement and professional identity.
For many of us, our sense of identity has become closely tied to what we do, what we know and the contribution we believe we make. But what happens when algorithms can increasingly perform tasks that once gave us our professional distinction?
This day explores the idea of Identity Regeneration — not simply reinventing ourselves or refreshing our CV, but undertaking a deeper, root-and-branch renewal of how we understand ourselves and our working lives. We will explore some of the opportunities as well as the risks: on what basis can careers be built in the future?
Drawing on the themes from Self-Worth Academy’s “Identity Regeneration” series, we will explore four dimensions of renewal: Perspective, People, Practices and Strengths. We will consider how our understanding of work and success may need to change; the importance of relationships and communities; the practices and habits that sustain us; and the strengths we can bring that are not easily replicated by machines.
Alongside conversation and reflection, we will ask a deeper question: Who am I when my identity is no longer defined primarily by what I do?
The day offers an opportunity to step back, reflect and begin to imagine a different relationship with work, identity and self-worth. It is especially useful for people contemplating career-change, or supporting others in transition.
